cada cosa en su sitio: el orden (y desorden) de las palabras

En la vida personal el orden es una cuestión de gustos y costumbres, pero en el inglés es esencial. Uno de los errores más comunes es colocar mal las palabras de una frase. En este artículo, unas claves para no hablar al revés.

Acuérdate que, con la excepción de las preguntas, casi todas las frases en inglés tienen la forma sujeto + verbo +complemento (si hay).

Your father is really nice.
sujeto + verbo + complemento

En castellano el orden es más flexible.

Es muy simpático tu padre. = Tu padre es muy simpático.
verbo + complemento + sujeto = sujeto + verbo + complemento

A raíz de traducir del castellano, muchos hispanohablantes invierten sus frases.

Esta frase

Are complicated these exercises. X

debería ser así:

These exercises are complicated. (Estos ejercicios son complicados.)

Aquí tienes más ejemplos:

Under the university’s new program change the subjects. X
Under the university’s new program the subjects change. (Bajo el nuevo programa de la universidad las asignaturas cambian.)

Does not exist any relation between the government and the attacks. X
No relation exists between the government and the attacks./There is no relation between the government and the attacks.
(No existe una relación entre el gobierno y los atentados./No hay una relación entre el gobierno y los atentados)

Is different teaching English than teaching singing. X
Teaching English is different from teaching singing. (Es diferente enseñar inglés que enseñar canto.)

Mucha gente también añade un it que sobra.

It’s very small my house. X

It’s very important the nationalism in Spain. X

It happens the same thing with me. X

En estas frases mal hechas, it se refiere al sujeto del verbo (my house, nationalism, the same thing) y por lo tanto el sujeto se repite dos veces. La forma correcta es muy sencilla: un sujeto, un verbo y un complemento, en ese orden.

My house is very small.

Nationalism is very important in Spain.

The same thing happens to me.
